Easter is not about easter egg or bunny - that is ultimately very far from the true meaning. It the most joyous season of Christian calendar. It celebrates the Resurrection of Christ, our Redeemer.
"Dying He destroyed our death.
Rising He restored our life."
Not only He destroyed death, but also sin. It [Easter Sunday] is the most important day because we commemorate fulfillment of God the Father's Covenant to His people. And on this season God's wants His children to venerate His Divine Mercy. On the sunday right after the Easter Sunday Jesus gave instruction to all Christians through St. Faustina:
Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: “Jesus, I trust in You” (Diary, 47). “I want this image …… to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter; that Sunday is to be the Feast of Mercy” (Diary, 49).
“On this day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My Mercy. …… Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet” (Diary, 699).
“Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation, that is, recourse to My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity” (cf. Diary, 965, 998).
The Easter season last for 7 Sundays (50days) starting on Easter Sunday, which commemorates the Resurrection until Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.
During these season the popular prayer, Angelus is replaced by Regina Coeli (Latin - “Queen of Heaven”). This has been tradition since 13th century.
REGINA COELI
Queen of Heaven, rejoice. Alleluia.
For He, whom thou wast worthy to bear. Alleluia.
Has risen as He said. Alleluia.
Pray for us to God. Alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary. Alleluia.
R. Because the Lord is truly risen, Alleluia.
Let us pray
O God, Who by the Resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, hast been pleased to give joy to the whole world, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may attain the joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.
"To Jesus through Mary" - St. Louis de Montfort
