Mary, Queen of the Philippines

(Mary, Queen of the Philippines song)

Marian hymns are Christian songs dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As the Theotokos [Mother of God], we [Catholics] always ask for her help to pray for us just like in the wedding feast at Cana. These devotion has been instilled in Catholic traditions to honor her "yes" to God and her role in salvation. They are used in liturgical celebration during Virgin Mary's solemnities and feast. Traditionally they are sung on the month of May [Flores de Mayo]. The entire month dedicated for her.

Filipinos are Pueblo Amante De Maria ( a people in love with Mary) or Bayang Sumisinta kay Maria. We have special love for her that we had  made homegrown devotion for her. We have unabashed affection for her that we address her as "Mama Mary". This title is distinctly Filipino which shows  our intimate relationship to her. To us she is Our Heavenly Mother where we can ask for help without reservations. Another sign of our relationship to her can be seen in the streets all throughout the Philippines. Rosaries are present in almost all mode of transportation in the Philippines. It is hanged in the mirror of jeepneys, tricycles, public van, bus, trucks, private vehicles and even on the handlebar of motorcycle. It is because we believe that she protects her children by the Grace of Protection given to her by God the Eternal Father.

The video you watched is a song dedicated to Mama Mary which was shot in Guimaras, Philippines. The tune of Mary, Queen of the Philippines song was taught by Jesus (He is humming the tune) to the songwriter. The song is one of its kind because the lyrics are the different titles of Mama Mary namely
  • Mother of Jesus Christ
  • Immaculate Conception
  • Mother most pure
  • Mother undefiled
  • Queen assumed into heaven
  • Seat of Wisdom
  • House of Gold
  • Mystical Rose
  • Mediatrix of All Grace

The people who are involve in making the video also had a very interesting experience. As you have observed in 3:11 a large Philippine flag is unfurled and the students went underneath it. Well, that flag is very hard to borrow due to its historical value and is one of the largest Philippine flag to exist. And though they are expecting that the government won't lend them the flag, they pursue to request for it. At the back of their mind, whatever happens they to it for the Lord and they will accept His Will. But since they really wanted to use the flag to portray what was in the video so that it synced with the lyrics, they prayed for it. They unceasingly asked for guidance and help to Mama Mary. Then Mama Mary answered them and instructed them to approach the official tell their intentions and sing the very song they composed. When the official heard them singing the lyrics

Bless our nation
Bless our people
Our Heavenly Queen
Bless the Philippines
We are all yours

The official approved their request to use the flag. In this song we consecrate our country to the Immaculate Heart of our Blessed Mother. Every time I hear this song my heart is filled with joy and gratitude. Joy that I am able to sing what Jesus Himself is singing to her. And gratitude to Him for sharing this to us. Mama Mary is Our Queen and it is such an honor to sing the song composed by Jesus.
